Her Face - Sir Arthur Gorges, 1625

Her face
so fair
first bent
mine eye

Mine eye
to like
her face
doth lead

Her face
with beams
doth blind
mine eye

Mine eye
with life
her face
doth feed

O face
with frowns
wrong not
mine eye

This eye
shall joy
her face
to serve
Her tongue
so sweet
threw drew
mine ear

Mine ear
to learn
her tongue
doth teach

Her tongue
with sounds
doth charm
mine ear

Mine ear
with hope
her tongue
doth feast

O tongue
with cheeks
vex not
mine ear

This ear
shall yield
her tongue
to trust
Her wit
so sharp
then hit
my heart

My heart
to love
her wit
doth move

Her wit
with art
doth knit
my heart

My heart
with skill
her wit
doth kill

O wit
with smart
wound not
my heart

This heart
shall swear
her wit
to fear.
